Park Avenue Armory

Recital Series

“One of the many enjoyable aspects of concerts…like the Park Avenue Armory's recently renovated Board of Officers Room is the chance to enjoy the intimacy of the music making and to see the players up close.” – The New York Times

In just a few short years the restored Board of Officers Room has garnered a reputation not only for its excellent acoustics and austerely elegant Gilded Age interior, but also as a home for some of the most dynamic and important chamber music concerts in the city. That trajectory continues this season with even more enchanting musical moments in the most personal of settings, including the recital debuts of opera greats as well as the next generation of brilliant singers, thoughtfully curated programs of both lieder and contemporary works, and electrifying performances by musical luminaries that take their intrepid artistry in thrilling new directions.

November 16 & 18

“Barbara Hannigan sings the songs of Erik Satie as if she’s sitting next to you, whispering and cooing across the kitchen table with sufficient breathiness, soft edges and exquisite spaciousness to match Reinbert de Leeuw’s sweet-melancholy piano chords.”
–The Guardian (UK)

Soprano Barbara Hannigan makes her U.S. recital debut with a duo of programs that showcase her versatility and superb musicianship, including an artfully curated look at the Second Viennese School and an exploration of the work of French composer Erik Satie.
